Dr Darren Ault

Dr Darren Ault

MBBS (UQ), FRANZCR

A University of Queensland Medical School graduate, Dr Darren Ault completed his registrar training at the Royal Brisbane Hospital with further fellowship training in musculoskeletal and body MR imaging at Leeds General Infirmary and St James’s University Hospital in the UK. His interests include all aspects of MR imaging with a particular interest in musculoskeletal and oncology imaging. Dr Ault also has an interest in breast imaging and is a visiting radiologist at the Wesley Breast Clinic. Dr Ault has worked as a radiologist in private practice at the Wesley Hospital since 2001 apart from a six-month secondment to the UK as Clinical Director of Radiology at the Eccleshill Treatment Centre in Leeds-Bradford.

Dr Allan Avery

In 2006 Dr Allan Avery graduated from the James Cook University School of Medicine with Honours. Dr Avery undertook his radiology training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital including a year of advanced training in MRI and cross-sectional imaging. He then undertook a fellowship in abdominal and pelvic imaging at the Joint Department of Medical Imaging in Toronto, Canada. Dr Avery is passionate about Radiology and has a keen interest in education and training. His clinical speciality interests include MR imaging, abdominal/pelvic imaging and neuroradiology.

A/Prof Brown specialises in Interventional Radiology, with particular interests in interventional oncology, thoracic interventions, sports medicine, uroradiology and health economics. After graduating from the University of Queensland Medical School, Dr Brown undertook radiology training at The Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. He completed a fellowship in Interventional Radiology at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, with a sub-specialist interest in interventional oncology. He also attained post-graduate qualifications in Sports Medicine from the University of Queensland, Bioscience Enterprise from the University of Cambridge, and Public Health from Harvard University, which compliments his work in radiology. He holds certification from the European Board of Interventional Radiology (EBIR).

A/Prof Brown is Clinical Director of I-MED Radiology at The Wesley Hospital, and a Senior Staff Specialist in Radiology at The Prince Charles Hospital. He has a number of active research interests in uroradiology, oncology, sports medicine and nuclear medicine, and has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed literature. Dr Brown has also completed honorary research fellowships at Kings College London and The Australian Venom Research Unit and is currently Associate Professor at the University of Queensland School of Medicine.

After graduating from the University of Queensland Medical School, Dr Patty Connor went on to complete her radiology registrar training at Royal North Shore Hospital where she gained experience in plain film reading, ultrasonography, CT, MRI and fluoroscopic procedures. Dr Connor went on to undertake fellowships in breast imaging at Royal North Shore Hospital’s Breast Screen service and paediatric radiology at the Children’s Hospital in Westmead. Dr Connor also holds a special interest in MSK and oncology imaging conducting the upper limb and orthopaedic oncology multi-disciplinary team meetings. She is a staff specialist radiologist at Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital and a VMO at the Wesley Breast Clinic.

Radiologist Luke Danaher

Dr Luke Danaher graduated from the University of Queensland in 2008 and spent his resident years at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH). While at RBWH, Dr Danaher undertook a research year focused on interventional radiology and was the author of multiple papers and presentations. Following this, Dr Danaher completed his radiology registrar training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) and at various hospitals across Queensland. He gained Fellowship with RANZCR in 2017 and undertook fellowship training in vascular & interventional radiology at PAH. He is a member of RANZCR, IRSA, SIR, and CIRSE and has particular interests in interventional radiology, interventional oncology, image-guided procedures, oncologic imaging, and women’s imaging.

Dr Edward Dauber specialises in oncology imaging with particular expertise in CT scanning, breast imaging, breast interventional procedures, and CT coronary angiography. He is registered as a Level A CT Coronary Angiography Specialist. He graduated from the University of Queensland Medical School where he completed his residency in radiology at the Royal Brisbane Hospital before undertaking fellowship training in body imaging at University Hospital at the University of Western Ontario in Canada.Since returning to Australia, Dr Dauber has gained extensive experience in medical imaging through his private practice work at St Andrew’s Hospital in Brisbane, Allamanda Hospital in Southport and The Wesley Hospital, where he has been based since 1997. Dr Dauber is an examiner for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists Part Two Viva Exams.

Dr Simon Gray is a dual trained radiologist and nuclear medicine specialist. Dr Gray graduated from the University of Queensland Medical School in 2007 and undertook specialty training in Radiology at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s' Hospital.

He then completed a fellowship in nuclear medicine & positron emission tomography (PET) at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital and the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney where he gained widespread experience in PET, nuclear medicine and radionuclide therapy including Lutate-177 and radioactive Iodine treatments.

Dr Nicholas Kienzle is the Clinical Director of Radiology at I-MED Radiology St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital. A University of Queensland Medical School graduate, Dr Kienzle completed his radiology training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital before undertaking advanced training in vascular and interventional radiology at the University of British Columbia and Vancouver General Hospital in Canada. His expertise lies in a comprehensive range of image guided procedures and therapies with a particular interest in abdominal/hepato-biliary intervention

Dr Barbara Laing is a specialist MRI radiologist with particular interests in neuro-imaging and body imaging. Dr Laing completed her radiology training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, appointed as the first registrar in MRI in Queensland in 1987. In 1992 she completed a Fellowship in cross-sectional imaging at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Centre in New Hampshire, USA gaining experience in neuro-imaging, musculoskeletal MRI and early prostate imaging. Initially she returned to the Princess Alexandra Hospital as a consultant and then commenced as Director of the MRI service at the Wesley Hospital in 1995. Dr Laing is also a visiting radiologist at the Wesley Breast Clinic.

Dr Gillian Long

Dr Gillian Long is an experienced Paediatric Radiologist and a Fellow of both the Royal College of Radiologists UK and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists.  Gillian trained in the UK and gained broad clinical experience prior to Radiology.  She completed a Paediatric Radiology Fellowship at British Columbia Children's Hospital in Vancouver and was Consultant Paediatric Radiologist at Sheffield Children's Hospital in England for 5 years before coming to Australia in 2001. 

In addition to working for I-MED Radiology Gillian is also a Senior Staff Specialist at the Queensland Children's Hospital having previously worked at both the Mater and the Royal Children's Hospitals in Brisbane and has experience as Director of Radiology at the Royal Children's Hospital.  

Dr Long has a degree in medical education and a keen interest in teaching with an active role in the education of Queensland Radiology trainees and has been a College examiner for many years.

Dr Dean McCoombe

Dr McCoombe is a general radiologist at Wesley Hospital. Dean has special interests in cardiac, musculoskeletal and body imaging. Dean also performs musculoskeletal interventions, vascular access procedures and imaging guided biopsies.

Dean graduated from Griffith University Medical School and attained his specialist training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. After completing his radiology training, Dean continued to complete MRI and Cardiac MRI fellowships at the Wesley Hospital.

Dr Louise McEwan

Dr McEwan graduated from the University of Queensland Medical School. Having completed her residency in Townsville and then working in General Practice, she pursued specialist training in radiology initially at Greenslopes Repatriation General Hospital and completed it at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane.

Dr McEwan is dual trained, having completed Nuclear Medicine and PET training at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. She has particular interests in oncology imaging including PET and CT and Nuclear Medicine Imaging.

Dr Madeleine McGuiness

Dr McGuiness is a dual trained radiologist and nuclear medicine specialist. After graduating from the University of Queensland Medical School in 2008, she completed specialty training in radiology at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

She undertook further fellowship training in Nuclear Medicine and PET at the Gold Coast University Hospital and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. She gained wide experience in both diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures including radioiodine and Lutetium-177 therapy.

Dr Nigel Mott graduated from the University of Queensland Medical School in 2002 going on to complete his residency and radiology training at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. He undertook fellowship training in general and vascular interventional radiology at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne before completing a second fellowship in interventional radiology at the Royal Brisbane Hospital.

He has an interest in general body and vascular interventional radiology including venous access, peripheral arterial intervention, embolisation and pelvic intervention, biliary intervention and renal/ureteric intervention.

Dr Rob Parkinson specialises in interventional radiology and uro-radiology. After graduating from the University of Queensland Medical School, Dr Parkinson completed his radiology training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. He then undertook fellowship training in interventional radiology and uro-radiology at University College Hospital and Middlesex Hospital in London and at Westmead Hospital, Sydney. Dr Parkinson provides a comprehensive range of interventional radiology procedures including vascular access, vascular intervention, biliary intervention, image guided biopsies and injections. He has expertise in varicocoele embolisation and has published in the field of radio-frequency ablation of renal tumours. Dr Parkinson has recently been instrumental in the development of the prostate MRI service at Wesley Medical Imaging, establishing close ties with an internationally regarded centre in the Netherlands. Dr Parkinson has been based at the Wesley since 2005 and is available for patient consultations regarding image-guided therapies by referral.

After graduating from the University of Queensland Medical School, Dr Sean Wallace completed his internship and residency prior to commencing radiology training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. He undertook further training in interventional radiology and interventional neuroradiology at the Gold Coast Hospital and cross- sectional imaging at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. He completed fellowships in angiography and interventional radiology at Westmead Hospital Sydney and musculoskeletal imaging at Calvary Hospital Hobart. Dr Wallace provides a comprehensive range of interventional radiology procedures and has been based at the Wesley since 2014.

Dr Duncan Walker is a sub-specialist interventional radiologist with particular interests in musculoskeletal intervention and interventional oncology. Dr Walker also has a particular interest in musculoskeletal and body MRI along with musculoskeletal ultrasound. A UK medical graduate, Dr Walker completed his radiology training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, London and an MRI fellowship at Southampton prior to relocating to Australia in 1994 to take up a staff radiologist appointment at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. Dr Walker joined what is now St Andrew's Medical Imaging in 2000 and along with his colleagues provides a comprehensive subspecialist interventional service for outpatients and hospital inpatients.

Dr James Walters specialises in PET-CT and nuclear medicine and helped establish the PET service at the Wesley Hospital in 1999, the first PET imaging centre in Queensland. He has a wealth of experience in nuclear and molecular imaging, along with a broad knowledge of general radiology and was among the pioneers of interventional radiology during his time as a consultant at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. He maintains an active interest in the teaching of technical and junior medical staff. Dr Walters’ association with the Wesley Hospital spans more than 30 years.

Assoc Prof David Wong

A/Prof David Wong is a dual qualified radiologist and PET/nuclear medicine specialist. He is the director of PET and Nuclear Medicine at I-MED Radiology Network at The Wesley Hospital and is an associate professor with the Centre for Advanced Imaging at the University of Queensland. 

He graduated from the University of Queensland Medical School and completed his radiology training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. After completing his Nuclear Medicine fellowship at St Vincent’s and Prince of Wales Hospitals in Sydney, he undertook PET training at Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute in Melbourne. He then completed a cardiac MRI fellowship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St Louis, Missouri USA and MBA with CQU. 

He has received several research and scientific awards including the Rouse Travelling Fellowship and Brian Smith Memorial Award.  In 2017, he was awarded the Marquis Who's Who - Lifetime Achiever. A/Prof Wong has been with the first PET centre in Queensland at The Wesley Hospital since 1999. In July 2014, he was instrumental in the commencement of the first Ga68PSMA PET CT studies in men with prostate cancer in Australia, and in August 2017, started the first Lutetium PSMA therapy for men with advanced prostate cancer in Queensland at the Wesley Hospital in Brisbane.
