About Dr Janu Pirakalathanan

Dr Janu Pirakalathanan is a highly skilled radiologist with expertise in diagnostic imaging and interventional radiology. She is the Clinic Director at Peninsula Private Hospital.

Dr Pirakalathanan graduated from the Monash University in 2006 and completed her radiology training at Monash Health. She subsequently undertook fellowship training in MRI imaging and Cardiothoracic Radiology at Monash health in Melbourne. Her special interests include cardiothoracic imaging, neuroimaging, gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary MRI, and oncology imaging.

Dr Pirakalathanan is also an accredited ILO (International Labour Organization) B Reader, which means she has undergone additional training and certification to read chest x-rays for the identification and classification of pneumoconiosis. This qualification allows her to provide expert opinions on work-related lung diseases and help ensure the health and safety of workers in various industries.

In addition to her clinical work and ILO B Reader accreditation, Dr Pirakalathanan is involved in multicentre oncology trials, educational seminars for other specialists and general practitioners, and medicolegal consultation for occupational lung disease in Victoria. She relishes opportunities to engage in novel technologies and research in her areas of interest and sub-speciality. She is committed to providing excellent patient care and contributing to the advancement of the radiology profession.
