About Dr Nalini Bhola

Dr Nalini Bhola began working with Regional Imaging (I-MED Network – Border) and  BreastScreen NSW (BSNSW) in 2006, after finishing a year of advanced training at Mc Master University, Ontario, Canada where she completed a Fellowship in Oncologic Imaging, with emphasis on cancer detection of the breast and pelvis.Throughout her radiology training in South Australia and Northern Territory, she maintained her interest in Women’s imaging and in particular, breast imaging. 

Dr Bhola has been the Women’s Imaging Coordinator and Spervisor for the Breast Imaging  Fellowship for the Border region for many years. Her interests centre on imaging of the  Breast and Gynaecologic/Pelvic Imaging. Dr Bhola has been instrumental in introducing  breast tomosynthesis, breast MRI and recently contrast enhanced mammography to southern NSW. She is proficient in all forms of breast intervention. On the women’s imaging  front, she has introduced sonohysterography and pelvic MRI to the Border region. 

Dr Bhola is the Statewide Clinical Director and State Radiologist for BreastScreen NSW,  providing clinical leadership and expert advice to the Cancer Institute NSW and BSNSW  screening and assessment services. Dr Bhola is an accreditation site visitor for BreastScreen  Australia and a member of the Breast Imaging Advisory Committee (BIAC) of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists. 

Over the last few years, Dr Bhola has been part of a large team evaluating machine reading  of mammographic screening images within BSNSW and actively involved in its implementation and ongoing monitoring. 

Dr Bhola’s future focus is to bring the imaging technologies readily available in the cities to  women of rural NSW and her vision of bringing the BreastScreen NSW assessment team to rural and remote communities on mobile vans, has been successfully piloted.
