Putting Men’s Health in Focus: Getting the Answers That Matter

Key points

  • Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia, with an estimated 29,000 new cases recorded in 2025 (accounting for around 30% of all male cancer diagnoses).
  • Around 72 Australian men are diagnosed each day, joining roughly 300,000 men across the country currently living after a prostate cancer diagnosis.
  • Early detection works: the 5-year relative survival rate for prostate cancer in Australia sits at 96% overall, rising to 98% for prostate adenocarcinoma.
  • Updated 2026 national guidelines recommend a risk-based approach to PSA testing, encouraging men aged 50 to 69 (or from age 45 for those with a family history) to discuss testing with their GP.
  • Advanced medical imaging, including multiparametric Prostate MRI and Medicare-funded PSMA PET scans, gives doctors pinpoint accuracy to detect, map and stage prostate cancer.
  • Throughout November 2026, I-MED is proudly partnering with and donating to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) to fund life-saving research and patient support.

This November, I-MED is proud to partner with the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) to champion men’s health, fund vital life-saving research, and empower men to take charge of their wellbeing.

Why Men’s Health Matters

Across Australia, men’s health needs our urgent attention. Statistically, Australian men live an average of 4.4 years less than women and spend the last 11 years of their lives in poor health.

When it comes to cancer, prostate cancer is Australia’s most commonly diagnosed cancer in men. Around 72 men are diagnosed every single day, accounting for roughly 30% of all male cancer diagnoses (approximately 29,000 cases annually). Today, some 300,000 men are living after a prostate cancer diagnosis.

The good news? Early detection saves lives. Thanks to advances in diagnostic imaging and treatment, the five-year relative survival rate for prostate cancer is around 96% overall (and 98% for prostate adenocarcinoma).

At I-MED Radiology, we are experts in medical imaging. Driven by our core value of compassion and our purpose, to save lives and reduce uncertainty, we are committed to helping you and your doctor get the answers that matter.

Supporting Our Community: Our Partnership with PCFA

Giving back to the communities we serve is a priority at I-MED. Throughout November, we are stepping up our commitment to men’s health through a formal partnership and research donation to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA).

By supporting groundbreaking research and raising awareness across our clinic network, we aim to spark life-saving conversations and ensure men have access to the world-class diagnostic care they deserve, from investigating new urinary symptoms through to diagnosis, treatment, and long-term care.

When Should You Talk to Your Doctor?

A prostate cancer diagnosis, or even the thought of testing, can cause understandable anxiety for men and their families. However, being proactive is your best defence.

Under the newly approved 2026 national guidelines, a risk-based approach to Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) blood testing is recommended:

  • Ages 50–69: Speak with your GP about initiating regular prostate cancer risk and PSA testing discussions.
  • From Age 45: Speak with your GP earlier if you are at higher risk, such as having a strong family history of prostate cancer.
  • At Any Age: Always see your doctor promptly if you notice new urinary symptoms (such as difficulty passing urine, a weak flow, or needing to go more frequently, especially at night).
