Optimise I-MED e-Referrals in Simple 6 Steps

Optimise I-MED e-Referrals in Simple 6 Steps

Key points

  • Maintain a single, active I-MED Radiology contact to ensure e-Referrals transmit successfully.
  • Verify setup by checking for the I-MED logo and active 'Print & Send' button on the imaging request screen.
  • Remove duplicate or outdated contacts from dropdowns by clearing their 'Category' field.
  • Set I-MED as the 'Preferred Laboratory' in user preferences for faster ordering.
  • Always test your setup and escalate any technical or template formatting issues to support immediately.

1. Confirm the Correct I-MED Radiology Profile

Ensure your primary I-MED contact is configured correctly for e-Referrals. When opening an imaging request, look for two key indicators:

  • The official I-MED Radiology logo is visible at the top of the request window.
  • The 'Print & Send' button is active and available at the bottom.

These confirm the referral will be transmitted electronically.

2. Clean Up Duplicate or Outdated Contacts

Multiple entries for I-MED can cause older, non-electronic pathways to be selected by mistake. Give your GPs one clear option:

  • In Best Practice, go to View > Contacts.
  • Search for variations like "I.MED", "I MED", or older entries.
  • Open the outdated contact and clear the Category field (remove 'Imaging Provider' or 'Radiology').
  • Save the changes. This removes them from the GP's dropdown list while keeping the record if needed.

3. Set I-MED as the Preferred Imaging Provider

Save your GPs time by setting I-MED Radiology as the default provider (if agreed upon by your practice):

  • Navigate to Setup > Preferences > Imaging.
  • Select the User Name.
  • Find I-MED Radiology in the list and click Edit.
  • Check the box for Preferred Laboratory and save.

4. Verify Doctor Workflows

Check in with your practitioners to ensure everyone is utilising the correct I-MED e-Order workflow. They should be consistently selecting the single, updated I-MED contact to guarantee the referral is sent electronically.

5. Perform a Test Referral

Validate your setup by completing a test referral. Generate a mock referral using the correct I-MED contact and confirm that it was successfully sent and received via SMS or Snapscan.

6. Escalate Technical Issues (Onsite)

If you encounter any difficulties during this process while onsite, or if referral forms are not printing correctly (e.g., wrong paper or template formatting issues), don't hesitate to seek help.

Escalate technical support needs to the KAS team immediately to ensure minimum disruption to your practice.
