Why adopt e-Referrals in your practice?

In a busy practice environment, e-Referrals are an instrumental solution, helping you save time, reduce patient/clinical risks and improve communication, particularly for your patients.

As many practices have shifted to Telehealth consulting, e-Referrals allow for uninterrupted access to diagnostic imaging services for your patients. Through the fast, electronic transmission of information, the burden of administrative tasks such as faxing, attending to phone calls about lost referrals and excess paperwork are also significantly reduced.

Notably, patients book their radiology appointments four times faster when their practitioner uses e-Referrals, creating better healthcare outcomes by delivering timely diagnostic imaging and prompt patient/referrer follow-up.

Greater efficiency within your practice 

By installing e-Referrals, practices experience many administrative time savers. As referrals are transmitted to I-MED at high-speed, there is likely a reduction of incoming calls from patients to request a new copy of their lost referral. There is no longer a need to fax paper referrals, also eliminating any clinical risks associated with faxes that are not received and can therefore delay treatment. Finally, there may be associated cost savings with less paperwork required.

A reliable system for Practitioners/Doctors 

e-Referrals are also a complementary method for practitioners consulting via Telehealth. Referrers can feel confident that their medical imaging requests are received by I-MED in a format this is legible, and therefore removes misinterpretation that may arise in hand-written versions. A record of the e-Referral is also stored within your PMS. 

Improved communication/connection with patients 

I-MED notifies your patient by text message shortly after the e-referral has been sent. This includes a digital copy of the referral and a link that integrates with I-MED's booking system, for them to arrange their appointment, online, within minutes (for most examinations). By keeping your patients directly informed, they possess greater control of the decisions that concern their own healthcare. It has also shown that patients are more actively engaged in the radiology journey, resulting in appointments made 4 times faster.

How it works

Step 1: Installation 

Follow the instructions for your PMS via the links below. You will be required to book a time/request an appointment for the remote installation. Our e-Referral agent will then seamlessly integrate the system into your practice software.  

Step 2: Send e-Referral 

Create the referral by opening the imaging request function in the patient file of your PMS. The e-Referral template is simply designed and includes clear fields to enter the relevant details, i.e. modality, body region etc.
Once all relevant clinical information has been entered, finalise the e-Referral using the clearly labelled buttons at the bottom of the referral template.

It is then authenticated, encrypted, and delivered straight to I-MED Radiology. You can also print out a hard copy of the image request for your patient, if preferred.

Step 3: Patient booking 

Within minutes, your patient will receive a text message that includes a link to book their radiology appointment online* – here they can select their preferred clinic, date and time - they will also be able to view a digital copy of their referral. I-MED will normally follow-up within 48 hours if their appointment has not been scheduled.

Step 4: Scan completed 

After your patient’s examination, we will send the results back to you, effectively ‘closing the loop’. 

 *Online bookings available for most services. An I-MED customer service agent will be in contact with your patient to complete the booking for any service where online bookings are not available.
