MRI clinic locations
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become an increasingly essential diagnostic tool. For your convenience we have compiled a list of MRI services in your region.
Patients can access MRI services at I-MED Radiology in more than 100 locations across Metropolitan and Regional Australia. Our MRI machines can have either a full, partial or no license for Medicare billing.
Many factors influence the cost of an MRI scan and its eligibility for the Medicare rebate. These can include machine licensing and the type of requesting practitioner, such as Consultant/Specialist, GP, or others. I-MED Radiology may charge a gap fee on top of the Medicare rebate, where patients are required to pay the full rebate amount plus a gap fee, and then claim the rebate back from Medicare. Learn more about the Medicare rebate and gap fees.
To request a quote for an MRI scan, call your local clinic and select the 'Booking' option on our phone system. Find your local clinic.
Below is a summary of the key differences between a full/partial/unlicensed MRI machine, so you can choose the best option for your needs and budget.
Full Medicare License
- Medicare rebate available for all Medicare-eligible services
- Out-of-pocket cost is the gap fee after paying the full amount and claiming a Medicare rebate
- Wait times may be longer due to higher demand
Partial Medicare License
- Limitations on services that attract Medicare rebate
- Patients might face higher out-of-pocket costs, especially for non-Medicare services
- Shorter wait times make appointments more convenient on these machines
Not Licensed for Medicare
- Machines without a Medicare license do not attract the Medicare rebate for MRI services
- Patients are required to pay the full cost of the service without Medicare reimbursement
- Short waiting time for appointments
- 3rd Party/ Work Cover/ Overseas (excluding NIB and Allianz) are generally scanned on an unlicensed machine as Medicare billing is not required, therefore we can provide a faster service.
Note, pensioners and healthcare card holders are bulk billed for most Medicare rebateable examinations.
Please review the list of our MRI locations below to determine the license type applicable to your local clinic(s). The licenses can be categorised as Full, Partial, or No license. In specific instances, a clinic may not possess a Medicare license, however, it is important to note that due to a government deregulation ruling, I-MED is authorised to offer 'Full Medicare Eligibility' in these cases. Please note, due to operational requirements, it may affect the location of your scan.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has become an increasingly essential diagnostic tool. The superlative soft tissue detail makes MRI the preferred modality for brain, spine, and the bone marrow as well as soft issues in and around the joints. In addition, improvements in MRI technology have created magnets that are quieter, faster, more comfortable, more accurate and hence more informative for GPs and specialists alike.
